A Logical Semantics for Nonmonotonic Sorts

چکیده
Suppose we have a feature system, and we wish to add default values in a well-deened way. We might start with Kasper-Rounds logic, and use Reiter's example to form it into a default logic. Giving a node a default value would be equivalent to saying \if it is consistent for this node to have that value, then it does." Then we could use default theories to describe feature structures. The particular feature structure described would be the structure that supports the extension of the default theory. This is, in eeect, what the theory of nonmonotonic sorts gives you. This paper describes how that theory derives from what is described above.

Production and Causal Logics for Nonmonotonic Reasoning
We introduce logical formalisms of production and causal inference relations based on input/output logics of [Makinson and van der Torre, 2000]. These inference relations are assigned, however, both standard monotonic semantics, and natural nonmonotonic semantics based on the principle of explanatory closure. The resulting nonmonotonic formalisms will be shown to provide a logical representatio...
متن کاملA duality between LM-fuzzy possibility computations and their logical semantics
Let X be a dcpo and let L be a complete lattice. The family σL(X) of all Scott continuous mappings from X to L is a complete lattice under pointwise order, we call it the L-fuzzy Scott structure on X. Let E be a dcpo. A mapping g : σL(E) −> M is called an LM-fuzzy possibility valuation of E if it preserves arbitrary unions. Denote by πLM(E) the set of all LM-fuzzy possibility valuations of E. T...
متن کاملDynamic Causal Calculus
We introduce dynamic causal calculus, a nonmonotonic formalism that can be viewed as a direct logical counterpart of the action description language C+ from (Giunchiglia et al. 2004). We formulate a nonmonotonic semantics of the associated causal language, and compare this semantics with the indirect, two-stage semantics for C+, given in (Giunchiglia et al. 2004). It will be shown, in particula...
متن کاملA Logic For Causal Reasoning
We introduce a logical formalism of irreflexivc causal production relations that possesses both a standard monotonic semantics, and a natural nonmonotonic semantics. The formalism is shown to provide a complete characterization for the causal reasoning behind causal theories from [McCain and Turner, 1997]. It is shown also that any causal relation is reducible to its Horn sub-relation with resp...
متن کاملOn the Logic and Computation of Partial Equilibrium Models
The nonmonotonic formalism of partial equilibrium logic (PEL) was introduced and studied in [1,2] and proposed as a logical foundation for the partial stable and well-founded semantics of logic programs. Here we study further logical properties of PEL and some techniques to compute partial equilibrium models.
